recumbent elliptical

Recumbent ellipticals are better than recumbent bikes because they let you work your entire body, move forward and backward and utilize a greater range of motion for better caloric expenditure.

To add variety to your workouts to help prevent boredom and promote results, try the following moves on your recumbent elliptical.

Recumbent Elliptical Workouts

  1. Core challenge – We know that the seat on Octane’s xRide recumbent elliptical is super comfortable, but you can get your core (abs and back) activated by lifting your back off the seat and supporting yourself. Sit upright and tall (don’t slouch) and engage your core by pulling your navel to your spine to keep you balanced there while moving your legs and arms. You don’t have to do this the entire workout, but incorporate periodic intervals.
  2. Blast your upper body – Legs are stronger than the arms, and they can tend to do the bulk of the work on a recumbent elliptical. So take advantage of Octane’s stationary foot pegs where you can periodically isolate the upper body by taking the legs out of the action. You’ll engage the chest, back, shoulders, biceps and triceps even more, and definitely will notice the difference when your arms have to move on their own. Try a few shorter intervals; then lengthen them as you can throughout the workout.
  3. Hit reverse – Take advantage of the ability to go backwards with your legs on the recumbent elliptical. Typically, you’ll work harder since you’re not as comfortable with this motion as going forward. And you’ll benefit from working the leg muscles a bit differently with reverse motion.

And for built-in variety on the xRide recumbent elliptical, capitalize on Octane’s signature Workout Boosters, including X-Mode, Chest Press and Leg Press, which incorporate interval and muscular endurance training for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Or try the 30:30 Interval program for an exhilarating challenge.

Consistency in workouts is absolutely valuable. But variety within exercise sessions keeps your body and mind engaged and responding. Give these recommendations on the recumbent elliptical a try!
