The key to burning fat is working out in your fat-burning heart rate zone. Determine your zone and use this Cardio Strength interval training CROSS CiRCUIT workout to melt away the unwanted pounds.

A motivational note from Octane Fitness team member and certified group fitness leader:

Most people believe the harder they work out the more fat they burn. They are wrong. The truth is fat burning occurs at a much lower intensity than many of us realize. So even though you’re sweating it out in the gym, you might actually be missing an opportunity to lose fat. Isn’t that the goal, to burn fat? Luckily, it’s fairly easy to find the sweet spot where your body begins to burn fat during your interval training workout—instead of the snack you just had!

Start by finding your Fat-Burning Zone. Finding your heart rate zone will help you maximize and burn the most fat calories. If you stay below your zone you aren’t burning fat, if you go above the zone you are just burning food in your stomach, not getting rid of the body fat. Yes, it’s all about burning fat, not just calories. Working out at high intensity levels will obviously show that you are burning more calories, but you are mainly burning off the short-term stores of sugar and carbohydrates you took in your last meal (no wonder we are usually hungry after a workout!).

To really target your stored body fat, you need to opt for lower intensity activities that keep your heart rate in the fat-burning zone for longer. That’s what’s great about our CROSS CiRCUIT interval training classes. You control the intensity, and this will help maintain an elevated heart rate throughout the workout. So as you focus on your individual heart rate zones, burning fat as you combine cardio bursts with strength conditioning, you are initiating the fat burn. You’re not just maximizing your fat burn, you’re also continuing to increase your muscle endurance and getting a more toned appearance.

What’s not to love about that?
