Cardio Equipment for my home, elliptical or treadmill – When it comes to exercise on equipment, both ellipticals and treadmills offer excellent cardiovascular workouts. As a group exercise instructor and personal trainer, sometimes I’m asked which machine provides a better workout. While that can depend on the person’s intensity level during, I’d say that ellipticals offer more benefits overall.
Think about it:
- Low impact: Elliptical machines are noticeably less jarring to the hips, knees and ankles.
- Perceived exertion: Because ellipticals disperse the workload over the entire body, research shows that people working out on ellipticals don’t feel like they are working as hard as those on treadmills – even when they are at the same intensity level.
- Total-body: Ellipticals engage both the upper and lower body muscles for a better overall workout and for building upper-body muscular endurance.
