At my age, movement in my legs and flexibility are important to me. I’ve had four hip replacements – both hips two times. I exercise every day, and when I got on the Octane xRide I could immediately feel the difference. The ability to go forward and backward is great, and the upper-body motion really helps my shoulders, especially because I have a torn rotator cuff. The xRide is one heck of a workout, and after using it, I can hit the golf ball again. This is the best piece of fitness equipment I have used – it is first-rate. ...Read More

I’ve been working with Octane for over five years. We have put the Octane product through our stringent Rand D process and they have grown from a newcomer to being the elliptical category leader in our clubs. We are very particular with the equipment we bring into our clubs and Octane is the winner according to members, trainers and our service techs. Service is truly what makes Octane rise above the competition, they have the best service record in the industry, even though it is rarely needed, but when a problem does arise they are there to fix the problem ...Read More

What makes a difference is the company, the people, the support, their ability to make change, be creative, and go the extra step. It’s not just about a product, it’s really about the people behind it and the people that drive it, Octane is definitely that company.

Mike Feeney

Senior Vice President, New Evolution Ventures
The Octane elliptical has proven to be a worthy adversary to our most elite athletes working intensely to attain their performance goals, as well as empowering to those taking their first glides down the path to attain their health goals. The quality design, look, feel, and durability of our Octane equipment is equally complemented by the World Class Team Octane has put together to efficiently support all of us.

Mark Verstegen

Founder and President of Athletes’ Performance
The founders' passion for cardio products and singular, uncompromising focus on elliptical trainers has kept this company growing. That singular obsession has facilitated spectacular growth in the club channel in the past five years.

Another eye-catcher is the Octane LateralX. This is definitely the next big thing in cardio. A sweet option for the LateralX is the add-on of CROSS CiRCUIT, which is a popular option for clubs and personal trainers. The stands include PowerBlock's adjustable dumbbells that can adjust to several different weights, all in one compact unit.

SNEWS

The leading source for outdoor and fitness industry news since 1984.
As a pure elliptical, Octanes are among the best, extremely smooth and solid. The new LateralX (LX8000) adds interesting variety to elliptical workouts that challenges muscles in new ways -- a classic "muscle confusion" strategy that works to increase all-round fitness.

Los Angeles Times

I am impressed with the quality and innovation of the Octane Fitness ellipticals and our members are routinely providing positive feedback on the Octane machines. The standing ellipticals and new xRide seated ellipticals have generated consistent enthusiasm and are constantly in use at my clubs. I look forward to an ongoing partnership with Octane and I’m excited to see Octane further advance this popular elliptical category.

Angel Banos

CEO, Gold’s Gym
Operating within state-of-the-art clubs, such as Bodytech, lends itself to very particular expectations from members and guests alike. Equipment standards are no exception. The Octane ellipticals are of the highest standard, coping well with the continuous demands of our clubs. At Bodytech, we have found that Octane offers the best low-impact equipment based on ‘natural body movement’, and ease of use, while presenting fantastic training opportunities for all fitness levels.

Eduardo Netto

Director Técnico, Grupo BodyTech
In 2010, VCU opened up a new state of the art Recreational Sports facility to serve our campus community. We wanted to fill our fitness center with the best of the best equipment on the market. After researching and testing elliptical trainers, we determined that Octane was the best. From the design of the equipment, ease of use, user experience, to durability and ease of maintenance, Octane was our clear choice. It is the number one choice for cardio workout in our fitness center.

Tom Diehl

Director, VCU Recreational Sports
A major component to a successful relationship is how well the product holds up, and how fast you respond when you do have issues. This is where I was very impressed with Octane. They are the only manufacturer I know of who makes proactive customer service calls, and this has helped us avoid unnecessary breakdowns. I look forward to seeing Octane grow its floor space in all our TSI clubs.

Ed Trainor

Vice President, Town Sports International
We are particularly selective when choosing premium fitness equipment and Octane totally impressed us in terms of ergonomics, innovation and quality. Our franchisees and members appreciate Octane’s unique features, effective workouts and rock-solid durability. Members are able to get a terrific cardio workout, while toning and building strength as well.

Peter Taunton

Founder & CEO, Snap Fitness
The Octane elliptical is truly an amazing piece of equipment. What was missing from our franchises for years was the “true” natural runner, and we finally found it with Octane and their elliptical products. Our members would agree that they are cutting edge, sharp looking, durable and offer the greatest workouts. We, and our franchisees have had an amazing experience with the entire Octane staff. From ordering, to installation, to training and service Octane ranks highest on our list in all phases. Great people, great equipment, great service! Go Retro...GO OCTANE!

Matt Schultz

Vice President Operations, RetroFitness
The Octane adjustable stride Pro4700 has proved to be very successful and has added variety to our cardio floors. Now the xRide, both lower body only and total body units, have been placed in several of our clubs, and has been very successful as well. Between all the Octane models we have, they have added a lot of variety to our preexisting offerings to our members.

Chuck Barnard

General Manager, Midtown Athletic Club
Lori and I have been in the fitness industry since the early ‘90s and have been purchasing equipment on a yearly basis whether to replace older existing equipment or outfitting a new gym. Getting introduced to the Octane team has created nothing short of a wonderful relationship both professionally and personally. Our members’ response to the movement of the Octane ellipticals has validated our wise choice to have included Octane in all our facilities.

Jeremy & Lori Lowell

Owners, Gold’s Gym WI, VA
Octane Fitness makes great machines for both the gym and home. I love their ellipticals because they’re smooth, comfortable on joints and easy to use. The MultiGrip handlebars let you work different muscles and it has a personal trainer–X-Mode–built in to work your entire body.

Chris Freytag

Certified fitness professional, contributing editor at Prevention magazine and author
The Octane elliptical is the ideal exercise product for couples, families or athletes. Everyone's got a different stride and you want this to work especially for you. So you can actually adjust the stride and customize to address your unique needs. I love the MultiGrip handlebars that are so comfortable I can get a real total-body experience. But the bottom line is that I can burn more calories in less time than if I used other equipment. If being too time-starved to get in a workout is the problem, then the Octane elliptical is the solution.

Dr. Pamela Peeke

MD, MPH, FACP and author
You don't see many elliptical cross trainers designed as smart as these from Octane. It's clear that they did their homework—studying how the body moves naturally, then adding arm motion so everything is working together in a biomechanically correct manner. Ergonomically, it doesn't get much better than this—from the stride length, the close pedal spacing, the pedal articulation, and the smooth, fluid motion. Plus, unique programs like the X-Mode and the GluteKicker encourage cross training so you can keep getting results.

Thomas P. Sattler

Ellipticals are one of the hottest products in our clubs. The main reason is our members can get a great cardiovascular workout without experiencing the joint-related pounding forces of some other forms of exercise. The result is members can exercise more frequently, in large part due to the reduced musculoskeletal jarring forces of elliptical exercisers.

Jeff Zwiefel

M.S., CSCS, ACSM LifeTime Fitness - Certified Exercise Physiologist
Equinox members expect a premium experience and demand the absolute best fitness equipment. We've witnessed Octane Fitness ellipticals deliver superior performance day after day, and our members and trainers consistently compliment their natural ergonomics and advanced features.

Harvey Spevak

CEO & President - Equinox Holdings, Inc.
I’ve used every elliptical on the market and Octane’s are far and away the best. Whether I'm getting a good workout or rehabbing an injury, the results from Octane are unmatched. My career depends on being in top physical condition, that’s why I use Octane.

We wanted to take a minute to tell you how happy we are with the Octane Fitness elliptical. We have the Q37e, and it is simply the BEST elliptical trainer that we have ever tried! I have been using the Octane Elliptical for 4 years. This is a great machine. With all the different facilities I've worked out at I've got to use many different ellipticals. Octane is by far the best. I would recommend it for any fitness level. This product is the elite of its class. Thank you Octane for turning me onto your product.

After neck surgery in 1996 and back surgery in 2006, my doctor said I couldn’t run anymore for cardiovascular exercise. His recommendation was elliptical trainers, but the problem was I just didn’t get the same workout intensity. Once Octane ellipticals showed up at the Cooper Clinic that all changed—the other ellipticals just didn’t compare. I could finally get a serious workout again. I am now the proud owner of an Octane elliptical.

I just wanted to let you know how much our family is enjoying our new Octane Q37 elliptical. Jack, 7 years-old, likes that he can measure how fast he can run. Ruthie, our 8 year-old, thinks it's a pretty good workout and likes to "move" for about 3 Disney Channel shows. She seems to think she is moving at 30 mph, but we all know otherwise :) Hannah, 11 years-old thinks the screen is great. She likes that the screen "shows everything all the time." I just got off my in-home Octane elliptical and I am rejoicing with my personal best: 65 minutes, 10.1 miles and 672 calories. This thing is incredible! I have lost 88 pounds since having my son in March 2010. I can credit my beloved Octane Fitness elliptical machine for 60 of those pounds and a healthy diet for the remainder. I feel great, energized and happier then I have felt in years mostly due to this wonderful elliptical. Thank you Octane!

When my husband and I decided to finish our basement and add a gym area, we came to a roadblock in our plans when it came to purchasing cardio equipment. He is 6' 4" and I’m 5' 3" tall. Additionally, the ceiling height was just over 7’. I hit the internet to see if there was anything that could suit our varied needs. Much to my surprise, we found it in the Q47ce. The low step height and variable stride was just what we needed. We’ve had it a year now, and we still use it faithfully. After so many ...Read More

It seems they just added a row of your elliptical machines to the Lifetime Fitness in Arlington Heights I go to on a daily basis. I was eager to rave about how much I loved using your machines for the first time this weekend. My wife and I purchased an Octane Q47e this past January from G&G Fitness here in upstate NY. I've wanted to add an elliptical trainer to my home gym for quite a while. I had a personal training business in the 90's, so quality, smoothness, and durability were always important features when selecting cardio machines such as a treadmill and stationary bike, as well as resistance training equipment (all of which are still keeping us healthy). After taking a ride on some of the other major competitors, we chose the Octane. Why? Quiet, club-like smoothness, a comparatively small footprint, and ...Read More

I just wanted to say that my wife and I bought a Q37 two years ago, and it was a great investment. We haven't had any problem with the machine, its like its still brand new and we use it all the time. These machines hold up great, while other machines break down and wear out. I see why our fitness dealer called to ask if we wanted to trade it in on the new model. The resale value must be quite good on such an awesome machine. Keep up the good work.

I've had my Q47ce for just under a year now and simply couldn't be happier. I use it between 4-6 times per week for a minimum of 30 minutes (alternating between Arm Blaster, X-Mode, and others). I have lost more than 25lbs and have significantly increased both strength and endurance with this machine. In short, I absolutely love it and can't stand when I travel and am forced to use other ellipticals (this machine really spoils you!) As for customer service—it's simply outstanding. This is a great product for people who have weak, chronic back problems. I had a treadmill and could not run and felt beat up after walking on it. With this elliptical I can run as fast as I can with no back pain afterwards! I wish I would have gotten this earlier. The long stride option was the deciding factor on why I bought this particular machine.... we looked long and hard and I tell you this is a great machine to purchase—I can run again! Because I suffer from deteriorating disks, my doctor insisted that I give up running. For nearly three months, I've been unable to workout. Exercising on a treadmill bothered my back. Our History

Octane-Owners

Two passionate industry veterans pursued their entrepreneurial passions and founded Octane Fitness in 2001, dedicated to focusing solely on elliptical machines and to make the best in the world. With the diligence and drive of Dennis Lee and Tim Porth, Octane’s first elliptical machine sold within 45 minutes of Lee delivering it to a retailer in November 2002.

The company went on to revolutionize the standing elliptical category, with breakthroughs unavailable on any other machines. But that wasn’t enough. Octane then invented the recumbent elliptical category with the launch of the unique xRide in 2008, which provided a new exercise modality that offered greater effectiveness than other seated equipment.

In pursuit of a better way to exercise, Octane created CROSS CiRCUIT, an efficient, effective program that combines cardio on the elliptical with strength-training intervals next to the elliptical. Exercisers now can benefit even more with more rigorous and productive workouts.

In 2012, Octane made history again with the launch of the innovative LateralX trainer, which combines lateral motion with a stepping motion for the ultimate in functional, total-body challenges.

Still eager for greater variety, Octane unleashed new creativity with the debut of the XT-One, a versatile, all-in-one cross trainer that lets exercisers walk, run, hike or climb on one machine.

So far, the results of this intense focus and uncompromising standards have been 70 Best Buy awards, new ways to exercise for virtually anyone, hundreds of thousands of fueled exercisers worldwide and a forever evolving and improving workout landscape. Stay tuned for more innovation, courtesy of Octane Fitness.

Research Shows Octane Fitness® Zero Runner® Delivers Equivalent Workouts to Treadmill

June 7, 2016

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – June 7, 2016A recent university study shows that the Zero Runner by  Octane Fitness, a Nautilus®, Inc. (NYSE:NLS) brand, elicits the same physiological response as treadmills during steady-state aerobic exercise. The data indicates that the Zero Runner offers a comparable workout as running on a treadmill, minus the repetitive impact to the body.

“This study validates what we knew all along based on user feedback – that the Zero Runner can deliver the same workout intensity as treadmills, while eliminating injury-producing impact,” said Tim Porth, vice president, product development and marketing, commercial and specialty at Octane Fitness. “This provides support for runners and exercisers who seek running-specific cross-training alternatives to high-impact routines.”

Conducted in the fall of 2015 by members of the BioKinetics Program at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, the study was entitled “Examining Effects of High vs. Low-Impact Cardiovascular Machines and their Physiological Metabolic Impact.” College students who were regular exercisers completed two separate 25-minute graded exercise sessions at 60 to 65 percent of their heart rate maximum:  one on a treadmill and one on the Zero Runner. Metabolic response was measured for oxygen consumption, respiratory exchange ratio, volume of carbon dioxide expired and ventilatory equivalents for oxygen.

Results displayed significant equivalence between participants when on the treadmill and Zero Runner across all metabolic variables measured. Researchers concluded, “The Zero Runner has the physiological basis to serve as an appropriate exercise modality to solicit the metabolic adaptations observed during traditional running.” Furthermore, because the Zero Runner is a “self-propelled cardiovascular machine,” it is similar to running outside as well. Finally, “The Zero Runner focuses on proper running form, like full gait strides, heel kicks and striking with the balls of the feet; it has similar muscle recruitment to running outdoors.”

With this information, runners can be confident that Zero Runner workouts are equivalent to running on a treadmill – except for the high-impact that can cause fatigue, compromises in form and injury. The Zero Runner is a viable alternative that helps runners cross train, perform active recovery, eliminate junk miles, reduce risk of injury and extend their running career.

Zero-Impact Running™

Independent hip and knee joints on the Zero Runner replicate natural motion – from walking, jogging, hill work and all-out running with a stride length up to 58 inches – with no impact on the body. Unique stride tracing technology enables users to monitor their stride throughout for stronger form, greater consistency throughout runs and correcting imbalances.

Workout programs include interval training, distance goals and CROSS CiRCUIT®, which combines intervals on the Zero Runner with strength and stretching exercises off the machine for greater overall conditioning.  Octane’s free SmartLink™ app offers training plans including 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon, and the app is compatible with select Garmin smartwatches so that data from both outdoor runs and indoor sessions on the Zero Runner is conveniently tracked to one training log.

The self-powered, quiet Zero Runner is available in two models for home use and one for commercial facilities through specialty fitness retailers and direct sales from Octane Fitness.  For more information, visit www.zerorunner.com.

Octane Fitness Debuts New Commercial Zero Runner® Internationally

April 7, 2016

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn., USA – April 7, 2016 – After receiving rave reviews throughout the U.S. health club industry, Octane Fitness, a Nautilus®, Inc. (NYSE:NLS) brand, presents its new commercial Zero Runner to the global market April 7-10 at FIBO 2016 Global Fitness, Hall 6, Booth B25 at the Exhibition Centre Cologne in Germany.

Unlike a treadmill, the revolutionary Zero Runner reinvents walking, jogging and running by completely eliminating repetitive, stressful impact on the body. And without a belt, deck or motor, the Zero Runner also eliminates the high costs of treadmill operation, maintenance and service.

“The Zero Runner gives virtually everyone worldwide a way to comfortably walk, jog or run, which is unprecedented,” said Mark Lowder, vice president of international sales at Octane Fitness. “Health clubs and fitness facilities not only have an exciting new way to motivate exercisers, but also benefit from greater ease of ownership than treadmills.”

Zero-Impact Running™

Independent hip and knee joints on the Zero Runner facilitate natural motion – from walking, jogging, hill work and all-out running with a stride length up to 147 cm – with no impact on the body.

Zero Runner exercisers can replicate the same strides they use outdoors, focusing more on their glutes and hamstrings than they can on a treadmill’s moving belt. With stride tracing technology (smart console only), users can monitor their stride throughout for stronger form, and contoured handles support proper upright posture.

Eleven workout programs, including interval training and distance and calorie goals, provide variety. Octane’s exclusive CROSS CiRCUIT® routine combines cardio intervals on the Zero Runner with strength and stretching exercises off the machine to correct muscular imbalances, build overall strength, increase flexibility and improve core power. Facilities can use CROSS CiRCUIT to run efficient small group training, with the optional two PowerBlock adjustable dumbbells and integrated weight stands on the machine for convenient storage.

For customized feedback and entertainment, the ZR8000 comes with a standard or smart console. The standard version features a large LED screen with integrated capacitive buttons; and the smart console is a 10” capacitive touch screen, with web browsing, video streaming, phone charging and a three-speed fan. Entertainment options also include personal viewing screens – which add TV, movie and entertainment selections.

Equipped with the standard console, the Zero Runner is self-powered. It also includes digital contact and wireless heart rate monitoring, ANT+, and Bluetooth® 4.0.

The Zero Runner will be available to international markets in Q4 2016. For more information, visit www.zerorunner.com.

“The initial response to the commercial Zero Runner has been off the charts, and we are thrilled that this innovative machine will transform cardio floors worldwide by enabling virtually anyone to comfortably walk, jog and run,” said Tim Porth, vice president, product development, commercial and specialty at Octane. “Plus, the Zero Runner frees fitness facilities from the multiple expenses that treadmills incur.”

Zero-Impact Running™

Independent hip and knee joints on the Zero Runner facilitate natural motion – from walking, jogging, hill work and all-out running with a stride length up to 58 inches – with no impact on the body.

Zero Runner exercisers can replicate the same strides they use outdoors, focusing more on their glutes and hamstrings than they can on a treadmill’s moving belt. Valuable stride tracing technology (smart console only) enables users to monitor their stride throughout for stronger form, and contoured handles support proper upright posture.

A variety of workout programs include interval training, distance goals and CROSS CiRCUIT®, which combines intervals on the Zero Runner with strength and stretching exercises off the machine for greater overall conditioning. Clubs can use CROSS CiRCUIT for novel one-on-one training sessions or small group training.

The self-powered (standard console only), quiet Zero Runner is priced beginning at $8,399 MSRP in the U.S. and is available in June 2016. For more information, visit www.zerorunner.com.

New Schwinn Airdyne Coming to Specialty Retail and Commercial Facilities

Now part of the Nautilus family of brands, Octane Fitness will begin offering the legendary Schwinn Airdyne Pro bike to consumers and vertical customers via its network of specialty fitness retailers worldwide; and to commercial customers via direct sales. A perennial favorite with a long heritage dating back to the 1970s, the new Airdyne has been brought into the 21 century and features refined fan technology for greater challenges to meet the needs of and drive results for today’s exercisers.

The custom-designed 26-blade performance fan, combined with a single-stage belt drive and a unique inertia system, deliver smooth motion; infinite resistance; efficient energy transfer; and quick transitions for low-impact, total-body workouts for everyone from beginners to elite athletes. Exercisers completely control the resistance level with their pace, and can choose from leisurely rides to rigorous high-intensity interval training programs, such as 20/10 Interval, 30/90 Interval and custom regimens.

MultiGrip handlebars provide several comfortable positions for the hands, and anti-slip foot pegs can be used to periodically isolate the upper body for variety. A motivating tachometer on the console visually signals how hard exercisers are working and challenges them to bury the needle. The self-powered Airdyne Pro also features unique calibration technology for accurate data feedback.

Built with Schwinn’s trademark quality and a moisture-repellant frame to withstand the toughest workouts, year after year, the Airdyne Pro is a perfect fit for cardio floors, in small group training, in functional training workouts and at specialty fitness studios.

Priced at $1299 MSRP in the U.S., the consumer Airdyne Pro will be available at Octane’s network of specialty fitness retailers in April, and commercially in Q4 2016. For more information, visit www.octanefitness.com.

David Lloyd Leisure Adds Newly Launched XT-One™ from Octane Fitness®

March 21, 2016

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn., USA – March 21, 2016 – David Lloyd Leisure, Europe’s premier health, sports and leisure group, recently added the newly launched XT-One cross trainer to its range of premium Octane Fitness products within its clubs. This versatile cross-trainer equips exercisers to do it all – walk, run, hike or climb – all on one innovative machine.

“The XT-One provides a virtually infinite number of biomechanically correct movement patterns to benefit exercisers with greater variety and better results,” said Mark Lowder, vice president of international sales at Octane Fitness. “It adds new excitement to the cardio floor to help members stay motivated and successful in their workouts.”

The XT-One joins Octane’s LateralX and xR6000 xRide® seated cross trainer as part of David Lloyd’s “Best in Class” gym concept, which presents an array of unique equipment to provide an unrivaled experience and help members achieve their personal health and fitness goals.

“We are always looking to offer the most innovative and effective products to help our members achieve their personal best,” says Michelle Dand, group health and fitness manager at David Lloyd Leisure. “We have had an enthusiastic member response to the LateralX and the xRide, and the feedback we received on the XT-One was also extremely positive, so adding this increased innovation and variety was an obvious choice.”

All-in-One Cross Trainer

Octane’s trademark SmartStride® interactive ergonomics replicate walking, jogging or running by automatically adjusting the stride length from 51-71 cm based on an exerciser’s pace. Exercisers also can choose from 10 incline levels for hiking or steep climbing, which can be selected and changed on the fly during workouts to maximize endurance, strength, power and calorie-burning.

Thirty resistance levels and 23 workouts challenge exercisers of every fitness level with variety and customization options, and Octane’s Workout Boosters – X-Mode™, ArmBlaster and GlutePower – facilitate cross-training. The exclusive CROSS CiRCUIT® program delivers combined cardio and strength interval training to optimize personalized conditioning effectiveness and efficiency.
