Health bestows second consecutive "Best of Fitness" Award on Octane Fitness

Health bestows second consecutive “Best of Fitness” Award on Octane Fitness
January 03, 2007

For the second consecutive year, Octane Fitness, a leading manufacturer of multiple award-winning, premium elliptical cross trainers, has earned the prestigious “Best of Fitness” award from Health magazine in the category of elliptical trainers over $1,500.

“We’re thrilled that once again, Health has recognized our innovations and rewarded our new Q37e model, which is totally unique to cross trainers,” said Dennis Lee, president of Octane Fitness. “In our quest to perfect elliptical cross trainers, we pioneered the Converging Path handlebars – along with several other breakthroughs—on the Q37 Series.”

Last year, Octane’s Q45e model earned Health’s “Best of Fitness” award.

Unique Motion and Workouts Win Approval

In the January/February issue of the magazine, Health commends the Q37e for its unprecedented Converging Path handlebars, which, unlike anything available today, replicate the natural path of the upper body when striding on an elliptical. Rather than force the arms into a rigid, straight, back and forth swing, converging handlebars move inward at an angle as the exerciser presses forward, just as one’s arms naturally move toward the midline when walking, jogging or running. Then they comfortably open by the same amount on the backswing.

By keeping the shoulders, elbows and wrists in neutral, safe positions, the handlebars minimize torque and repetitive stress, offer a longer range of motion for greater muscle involvement and require exercisers to use their core.

According to Health, “Ergonomically designed handles challenge your muscles in all the right ways.”
The magazine also praised the rigorous ArmBlaster program to build cardiovascular endurance and upper-body strength, as well as the trademark X-Mode and GluteKicker routines that emphasize cross training and total-body conditioning, noting that each “gives you a great all-over workout.”

Finally, recognized as a unique safety feature is Octane’s MOM Mode, which disables the console buttons and restricts movement of the pedals and handlebars so that young children cannot engage moving parts.

Since the awards were launched three years ago, Lynn Allen has evaluated the fitness equipment category. Allen is president of Heartland Fitness in Nixa, Mo., and an advisor to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association.
